The Music Building Show, New York, NY

The Music Building ShowMy piano player Alan and I had a great time playing an acoustic gig at The Music Building showcase last night in New York!

We performed some of my favorite songs in a casual setting with fellow musicians. Alan was rocking out with his crazy piano skills so much that I'm thinking we have to do more duo gigs.

Check out a reprise of the show (only a half hour!) on Feb 1st, 7PM at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. Check my calendar page for more info, hope to see you there!

Videos of More Christmas Covers!

One of the donation levels on my recent Kickstarter fundraising campaign for Sleigh Ride included me singing a show-stopping youtube version of the donor's favorite Christmas song, so Kate Lewis, Ron Langston, and Taylor Minor, here are yours below! And everybody else can enjoy them too.

Sleigh Ride Update: The song has 837 views on youtube in only a couple of weeks! It is by far my fastest growing youtube video ever. Thank you for spreading the word to friends, I really appreciate it and I think it made a big difference.

The videos below for Kate, Ron, and Taylor were made in my rehearsal space near Times Square, NYC, so you might hear some sirens, street noise, radiator hiss, and drums from the next room, but I'm pretty proud of how they turned out. Feel free to comment and "like" on youtube! Thanks again to you three for being my biggest donors!!!

Last Friday my band and I brought the retro modern grooves to Cambridge, MA! There was a great crowd of music lovers in the audience, which made it really fun to sing, "Son of a Preacher Man" for the first time. Here we are outside after the gig, where was my coat??

I can't wait to come back to Boston again. Thanks to everybody who came out on a cold winters night!

You Keep Me Hangin' On and Go Home Alone Video

Check out this video of my band and I performing the song made famous by The Supremes, You Keep Me Hangin' On, followed by my song, Go Home Alone. This video was from my recent gig at The Rock Shop in Brooklyn, NY and you can really tell how much fun I'm having on stage!

I worked incredibly hard to try to do justice to such an iconic song, not an easy task! I chose to cover You Keep Me Hangin' On because it is a song that I listened to quite a bit as inspiration when recording my new album. I get chills every time I hear the guitar play the intro. I love it so much!

You can find my song, Go Home Alone, on my new album, here are links to find it...

Christmas Song Fundraiser Show at The Rock Shop, Brooklyn, NY

The Rock Shop    Sarah Elizabeth Foster and band on stage at The Rock Shop

Sarah Elizabeth Foster and band after The Rock Shop show

Last night was my Christmas Song Fundraiser Show at The Rock Shop in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY! This show was my best ever! The band sounded amazing and I enjoyed incorporating some dance moves for the very first time! (I love the picture above of all of us together right after we finished the show. I'm so lucky to be able to work with such talented musicians.)

This year I'm recording a cover song of the Christmas classic, Sleigh Ride, to release as a single during the holidays. And even though Christmas is far off, I have to plan way ahead to have it ready in time for the season. Along with this show I will be launching a kickstarter campaign very soon, so I hope if you couldn't make it out to the show, you will be able to give online! This Christmas song is an extra project for me, so I can only do it if it is fan-funded!

Below is a picture of the Christmas tree display we had at the show!

The Living Room Sarah Elizabeth Foster live at The Living Room

The album release show this past Friday at The Living Room was a big success! People filled the tables and were standing at the back too! It was raining that night, so I really appreciate this great showing of support for my new release, "Take Me For A Ride."

My Inspiration: Mary Tyler Moore

In junior high, every night, I would watch The Mary Tyler Moore Show on Nick at Nite.

I loved how Mary had her own apartment (even though her bed was a pull out couch!). I loved her best friend, Rhoda. And I loved seeing her succeed at work.

Even though the show began in 1970, and I'm more of a fan of the 1960's for music and fashion, I credit it for developing my love for this general time period. I also watched her in the Dick Van Dyke show that aired in the 1960's, but The Mary Tyler Moore show reigns supreme for me.

I recently found out that Oprah counts The Mary Tyler Moore show as an influencial show in her life. She says it inspired her to start her own production company when she was first starting out because at the end of each episode you see "an MTM Enterprises, Inc. Production." I also remember seeing that at the end of each episode. I remember thinking wow, does Mary own the company that makes the show?!? That's amazing!

You can watch shows from the first three seasons now on www.Hulu.com and I'm buying all the seasons on iTunes.

Mary Tyler Moore, she's everything!

Austin Performance at Flipnotics

The third and most exciting show of the Texas tour was in Austin at Flipnotics! The house was packed with a mix of new faces and old friends. There wasn't an empty seat in the house and there were folks standing at the back as well.

And after "Go Home Alone," I heard someone in the audience say, "that's my new anthem!" What a compliment!

I can't wait to come back to Austin! Enjoy the videos...
