Goodbye

As some of you already know, Rockwood Music Hall was my last performance with the band and today I walked into the office for the last time as a Studio Sarah Records employee. This fall I am leaving New York City to embark on a new journey, graduate school.

When Sarah asked me to write this blog, I didn’t realize how difficult saying goodbye would be. How do I express all my gratitude, sadness and excitement in such a small space?

I’m grateful to have worked at this wonderful company and to have been a part of something truly special and innovative. I’m sad to leave a place with people that have helped me mature and grow, a place filled with interesting and new challenges every day. Sarah was right when she told me, “We’re more like a family here.”

Not only do I have a family at Studio Sarah Records, but with the band too. Performing with Sarah, Kenji and Caleigh allowed me to rediscover my musical passion and I don’t think I can ever repay them for being as patient and encouraging as they were. I know I’ll be at future shows and cannot wait to hear new songs and new interpretations of the old ones!

Leaving both families is difficult but I’m excited for the days to come, and know that my time here with Sarah at Studio Sarah Records has only prepared me and given me the strength I need for the journey ahead.

Thank you blog readers. Thank you Studio Sarah Records. Most of all, thank you Sarah.

Rockwood Music Hall Show Wrap Up

Last night I left my apartment to travel to my first Rockwood Music Hall gig right as it started to rain! As Heather and I neared the subway, the bag Heather was carrying with all of our precious t-shirts (ie Merch) ripped and she almost dropped them! At the same time the rain turned into a downpour. We did the best we could in our high heels, taking the subways stairs slowly so as not to slip. Then, Heather couldn't find her metro card as we were digging through our bags. We got her another one and boarded a packed rush hour train. A cab would have been a better option in this case, but in New York when it rains you could be waiting a lifetime for a cab, and we didn't have a lifetime, we had to get to the gig!

I tried to relax my breathing and save some energy for the set. I didn't want to feel depleted of energy on stage. This gig was early on a Monday (and just after a rain storm), but we still had our regular supporters their to hear the set. I'm very happy with my performance. I had a great time debuting a new song! I would love to play Rockwood Music Hall again. Stay tuned for when we play there again!

See you at the gigs in July!

Rockwood Music Hall Show Tonight

At 6PM tonight I will be playing at Rockwood Music Hall in Manhattan's Lower East Side for the first time. I probably won't say this from the stage, but I will say it here...I'm really really really excited to be playing there. Rockwood Music Hall has a great reputation here in New York and it fits my music perfectly.

They have strict video and picture rules, so I might not be able to post any photos or videos from the evening. I will write a review here tomorrow to tell you how it goes in words.

Wish me luck!

Cafe Orwell Wrap Up

What a successful show!

I had such a great time performing at the new Cafe Orwell concert series, Bushfolk. There wasn't an empty seat in the house and the audience was so focused and attentive. I enjoyed discovering the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, it has such a thriving artist community. My cellist, Caleigh, is so lucky to live in the area and work at Cafe Orwell.

We're now looking forward to our Rockwood Music Hall gig on Monday, June 15 at 6PM. Please come by after work and bring friends. We will be debuting another new song!
