I can't believe it, I've been doing this blog for three years! I've learned so much about blogging and music in these three years, and I've been doing some of my most exciting work in only the past few weeks. I've begun recording my second album and I've surprised even myself with it's direction.

In this new album you are going to see a new side of me, and I hope you like it!

Not only am I recording a new album, but I'm remaking my band. I will now be performing with a full rhythm section, which means I'm adding bass and drums. I'm also considering adding a keyboard player since almost all my songs have piano or keyboard or organ parts.

So why was I at IKEA you ask? Well, I had to buy two huge mirrors to start practicing for my new and improved live show. That's right, I've turned my cute little NYC apartment into my own practice studio so I can make this new live show come to life. I'm looking at these two huge mirrors right this second and I just can't wait to put on my high heals and start practicing!

So sit tight and hold your horses, I've got some music coming!

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.sarahelizabethfoster.com/blog/2010/5/6/celebs-are-always-copying-me-hammered-ring-edition.html"><rss:title>Celebs Are Always Copying Me: Hammered Ring Edition</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.sarahelizabethfoster.com/blog/2010/5/6/celebs-are-always-copying-me-hammered-ring-edition.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Fashion Sarah Elizabeth Foster Style hammered ring music video new york soixante-neuf west village</dc:subject>

Man, celebs are always copying me!

Obviously I have to start this new blog series titled, "Celebs Are Always Copying Me" to show you guys what I'm talking about. This edition is about my amazing hammered ring that I wore in my music video.

Here's a photo of the ring, I have the gold one. I bought it at a fabulous boutique on 10th ST, here in New York City's West Village. The shop is called Soixante-Neuf, and I highly recommend their jewelry and sandals. Tell Ryan I sent you when you stop by.

When I entered Milkboy Coffee's Ardmore location I was greeted with this lovely sign you see above announcing my show. I immediately photographed it and posted it to my twitter feed, so you may have already seen it.

I could not believe that Milkboy had a large backstage area for their bands to enjoy. Above you can see me luxuriating in the comfort. In New York City my band is used to stacking our instruments in a corner and jumping on stage at a moments notice. We all loved the space, but I might have loved it the most!

You can see in this photo what a great coffee shop this was. We had a big stage and a GREAT crowd. Everyone in the crowd was so focused on the music and that really brought out my best performance. It turns out Ardmore is a very nice suburb of Philadelphia, and I was glad to visit. I can't wait to perform again at this unique venue.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.sarahelizabethfoster.com/blog/2010/1/11/what-a-voice-lesson-can-do.html"><rss:title>What a Voice Lesson Can Do</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.sarahelizabethfoster.com/blog/2010/1/11/what-a-voice-lesson-can-do.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>downtown petula Clark voice lessons voice study</dc:subject>

Today I had the first voice lesson I've had in a couple of years and it was fabulous! Voice lessons have always been special to me. It is one hour with a teacher/mentor who totally understands the voice. What could be more exciting?

My teacher I work with now has worked with me since 2004 and has defititely changed my life and helped me uncover my high notes.

A few years ago when I started exclusively singing my own material, she started to realize that I no longer needed lessons. I was writing material suited to my vocal strengths, I wasn't trying to tackle arias any longer. I was doing extremely well.

Since then my voice has been great, more than great. I started to notice it expanding at the tail end of 2009. I thought it must be my age. 27 must be the magical year the voice finally matures. But today Kate told me that was not it, I was relaxing.

I recognized in that moment that in these past few years I have finally let go of wanting to be a certain type of singer, of trying to produce a certain type of sound. I've stopped wanting to be someone else. It has taken me quite a journey, but I'm free of the wanting and now my voice is completely surprising me! My range is so big and strong. My high notes have never sounded like this before. The freedom in my heart is showing in my voice.

Kate said that my rich mezzo tone reminds her of British mezzos because they have the roundness in their vocal tone that Americans do not. Being a mezzo is my favorite thing about my voice. To be a mezzo is rare, almost all women are sopranos. I love having the more rich deep lower tones. There is actually a home movie of one of my first Christmas' where my Grandmother comments on what a deep speaking voice I have. I am a mezzo. It is me.

Many mezzos have dificulty with their high notes, as I did for all of my young singing life because our voices are big and heavy and we try to bring the heaviness into the high notes and the high notes can't handle that and end up not sounding at all or sounding small and forced and not as pretty as they should. But with work and time and journey and all the things I did, they can be magical, truly magical. My teacher helped me uncover them the first time and this second time came from my new acceptance of me.

I'm in this new wonderful place and I'm going to figure out how to use these new tools in my songwriting. So, you might be wondering why I was going to Kate now? There are some interesting projects I have in the works. Some cover songs to be exact. You'll have to come see my show to find out! In the mean time, I'm on top of the world and so thankful.

This photo was taken today as I walked through Times Square after my lesson, elated.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.sarahelizabethfoster.com/blog/2009/12/10/petes-candy-store-show-wrap-up.html"><rss:title>Pete's Candy Store Show Wrap Up</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.sarahelizabethfoster.com/blog/2009/12/10/petes-candy-store-show-wrap-up.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Brooklyn Kenji Shinagawa Little Love Affair Sarah Elizabeth Foster pete's candy store</dc:subject>

December 4th at Pete's Candy Store in Brooklyn was a fun night.
It is a small intimate venue, so if you come, I hope you will introduce yourself to me after the show!
