Creative Commons Announcement
Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 10:16 AM Today I would like to announce officially that Gardening from the Ground Up Part 1, my debut album, will be licensed with a Creative Commons' Attribution Non-commercial Share Alike License (by-nc-sa)!
My music will NOT bear the copyright symbol with the words "all rights reserved," it will bear the Creative Commons symbol for the BY-NC-SA license...
I'm letting go of some rights and it feels so RIGHTS! Wait, I mean RIGHT!
Here is some more info to get you as excited as I am about this...
This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon my work non-commercially, as long as they credit me and license their new creations under the identical terms. All new work based on mine will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also be non-commercial in nature.
I think using this license encourages what people are already doing. I want you to feel free to put my music in your non-commercial videos (youtube), remix my music for fun, or share my music with your friends. Most people don't know that these things are illegal with the traditional copyright. But they are! And maybe that's a little too strict. Maybe that's a lot too strict.
What I want everyone to remember is that you must credit me when you use my work the way it is or use it in your own work. You can do this by putting a link to www.SarahElizabethFoster.com where ever you post the work. And you must use this same Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license for your new (derivative) work. To learn how to get this license for your derivative work go to...

There are many other organizations using Creative Commons licenses for more that just music. Here is an inspirational organization, The Open Planning Project, who used the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivatives license for their videos. I learned about this organization when they recently hosted a Creative Commons event! I'm excited to join this community of forward thinking businesses, organizations, and regular people.
Enjoy Summer Streets...
This was the inspiration for Summer Streets, Ciclovia, in Bogota, Columbia...

Glad you like our stuff. And remember, we are always looking for music to use in our short films. We give credit and copies on DVD.
Although we usually stick to soundtracks, from time to time we do use music with lyrics.
Best,
Clarence
